Tonight we received a message from the farmers at Hepworth Farms.
“Here is the list of items you will be receiving on Friday:”
Hon stat tai ( Chinese Brocoli)
Green curly kale
Hon Tsai Tai is a Chinese specialty called Kailaan. It has a mild mustard flavor. The flowers have sweet undertones and are tasty raw. The stems should be tender. You might get some that aren’t though, and while they taste good and edible, they are fibrous and it’s likely that you will not want to eat them. We love it raw in salad, but we also like it sautéed lightly (don’t overcook it) with garlic, soy sauce and a touch of sesame oil.
The Hon Tsai Tai flowering broccoli will bounce back if you trim the stem and put them in water like you would fresh cut flowers – but like the florist does, please also put them in the fridge!
Thank you & enjoy!
