Grand Reopening of the Crane House and Historic YWCA
Sunday, October 5 from 1 to 4 pm
Join the Montclair Historical Society this Sunday Oct 5th 2014 as they reopen the house after its restoration and reinterpretation. Expanded to include not just the Crane family, but the stories of the people — enslaved and free — who worked for them, and the women and girls who lived, learned, danced, and played at the house when it was a YWCA and pivotal social center for African American women from 1920-1965. After a brief opening ceremony shortly after 1, the house will be opened to visit.
As you step through the rooms of the first floor of the house, you’ll step through different periods of history and discover history through the eyes of people whose lives intersected with the house. Admission is free on the opening day.
